Read more: Conqueror paper – The traditional brand for modern print designThe history of Conqueror goes back to the year 1888. Back then, a certain Mr Barlow had big plans when he developed the idea of a machine-produced paper that would meet the quality criteria of handmade paper. Together with his partners at Buckland Paper Mill in Dover, he revolutionised business correspondence by producing such paper for the masses and making it affordable.
The paper brand was named after none other than the English King William the Conqueror. And ‘Conqueror’ was to remain the keyword for the paper brand. Since its creation, it has come to epitomise high-quality fine papers. Without losing sight of the valuable heritage of the art of papermaking, Conqueror has been adapted to the needs of the times over the generations. At the same time, the company has always been environmentally conscious. The entire range has been FSC® certified since 2007 and in the same year became the first CO2-neutral fine paper collection in Europe.
Every sheet of Conqueror paper that rolls off the machine today carries centuries of expertise and shines with consistent production quality, the highest quality pulp, first-class print reproduction and a subtle unique touch. Its triumphant success continues to this day: Conqueror stands for paper quality at the very highest level and enjoys a worldwide reputation as one of the most renowned fine paper collections.

The Conqueror watermark
These characteristics are symbolised by the tradition-steeped Conqueror watermark. It stands for quality, reliability and exclusivity and is almost inseparably linked to Conqueror papers. While the historical watermark showed William the Conqueror, the modern version is reduced to the lettering of the Conqueror brand. Conqueror paper qualities are available with and without a watermark. The cardboard (all grammages from 160 g/m²) is produced without a watermark due to the thickness of the material.
Conqueror in use
By using Conqueror in correspondence and stationery, you are signalling style, taste and quality awareness. If you want to communicate continuity and reliability with your choice of paper without ever appearing unfashionable, then Conqueror is the right choice for you. Used as business paper, Conqueror impresses even the most demanding customers in brochures, folders, mailings and business letters. The papers also shine in letters for formal and festive occasions and are also a fine choice for wedding stationery.
Conqueror papers at Papier Direkt
The Conqueror range consists of three versions: Wove (smooth surface), Laid (ribbed suface) und CX22 (extra smooth surface). Conqueror Laid and the super-smooth Conqueror CX22 in particular are characterised by their unique look and feel. The Papier Direkt range includes a large selection of papers and envelopes for both, so you will find the right Conqueror product for every application.
Conqueror Laid
Conqueror Laid is one of the oldest and best-known surface textures for paper. The characteristic ribs are reminiscent of classic 17th century papermaking when paper was still made by hand. They give the paper a decidedly noble, almost antique appearance. The ribbing of Conqueror Laid is particularly well-balanced. This gives also the 100 g/m² paper a beautiful volume. The Conqueror board qualities with 160 g/m² and 220 g/m² have a firm feel, but are still sufficiently flexible. The feel of the Conqueror Laid papers is pleasantly soft and very natural.

The Conqueror Laid range offers you a total of six finely graduated colour shades. The selection of white and cream shades includes the colours Diamond White, Brilliant White, White, Mother of Pearl, Cream and Chamois and opens up a wide range of possible uses for this classic fine paper.
Matching DIN long envelopes with the characteristic ribbed texture are available for all shades of Conqueror Laid. So the exclusive paper leaves nothing to be desired in business use. DIN C5 and DIN C6 envelopes are also available in some colours. A compact overview of the envelope range can be found in our Conqueror Laid envelopes online shop category.
Conqueror Laid in the paper mix
Conqueror Laid is naturally convincing across the board in its classic use as stylish correspondence and business paper. Despite its unique characteristics, the paper is very versatile and also cuts a great figure in super modern and natural stationery designs.
Combined with the saturated Colorplan Royal Blue, Conqueror Laid in Brilliant White unfolds an incredible radiance. For even more texture and feel, we have added the colour-identical Zeta Hammer Embossed to the paper mix.

Conqueror Laid shows its natural side in the paper mix with Crush Almond. To do this, simply choose a cream-coloured shade from the Conqueror colour range instead of bright white. The Mother of Pearl colour blends wonderfully harmoniously with the warm Almond from the sustainable Crush fine paper range. The fine ribbed texture of Conqueror and the open-pored surface of Crush provide an exciting combination of materials.
Conqueror CX22
Conqueror CX22 successfully combines tradition and modernity. It convincingly demonstrates that Conqueror, as a paper brand with a long tradition, can keep pace with technological progress. With its extra-smooth surface, CX22 was developed as the ideal printing substrate for razor-sharp laser and inkjet prints and has been an exclusive fine paper choice for digital printing ever since.
Despite its outstanding smoothness, the surface of Conqueror CX22 is pleasantly soft to the touch. This also makes it an excellent paper for handwritten letters. In stationery designs and business correspondence, it brings a distinctly elegant refinement to the paper mix that stands for quality and exclusive taste.

At Papier Direkt, we offer Conqueror CX22 in a selection of different grammages between 90 g/m² and 250 g/m² and in three shades of white. The colour shades Diamond White, Brilliant White and White guarantee outstanding printing results with fine details and an authentic and unadulterated image reproduction.
For harmonised business correspondence with Conqueror CX22, matching extra-smooth DIN long envelopes are available in all three shades of white – with and without window. The Conqueror CX22 envelopes are particularly easy to handle thanks to their pressure-sensitive adhesive. The grammage of 120 g/m² conveys quality and offers very good opacity.
